Peeling Back the Layers is a book of raw and unpredictable poetry. The poetry reflects emotions of divorce, abandonment, affairs, narcissism, rape, suicide, family, betrayal, and secrets. Many of the poets grew up in dysfunctional homes. Some of the poets reached a snapping point and ended up in mental hospitals. Some fell into the darkness and despair of depression. Many of the women gave love only to be betrayed. The poems in this book are riveting, and you will experience the depth of emotions as you read each word. These women peeled back the walls they had built around themselves one layer at a time. They let themselves be open to feeling again. This book contains original art from artist Linda Pope. The art is as powerful as the poetry. Each poem will speak to you in its own unique way. May you find the words you need in your life as you read the raw emotions within these pages.

I received the book as I had heard about it and it was an Enid local who put it together, but I found the book to be something I did not expect. It seemed to me to be people who chose to be victims of life's hardships and I found little about it that was uplifting or even interesting. It may be some peoples cup of tea but was just not for me. I did receive it in good condition and thank you as always for getting it to me quickly and with very little effort on my part. Thank you Judith BoothProduct details

Peeling Back the Layers Shelley Dawn MalicoteStutchman 9781508879596 Books Reviews
Peeling Back the Layers is the first book of poetry that I have ever read...I have read a poem here and there but never a book. These poems are written by women in the depths of despair...I can feel their pain as I am reading...I can imagine the tears falling as they are writing...I give Peeling Back the Layers five stars!!!
Just received my copy in the mail yesterday. I have only read a few pages into the book but already I am able to relate to some of the actions or reactions. It has clearly opened my eyes. Thank you to a wonderful group of ladies who have opened their hearts to the world so that the rest of us can learn!

Truth is truth and this book speaks a naked unpretentious universal truth that can relate to all regardless of ethnicity, gender nationality or denomination..
It is more than poetry and reeks of a haunting human experience. It is an honest and authentic compilation.
Van Gogh's art in it's profound simplicity could have been initially perceived as puerile before it's value emerged.
Similarly, this work has the potential, in time, to become a masterpiece.
While reading this book I could feel the raw emotions of pain, grief, loss, depression and anger. I read the horrors that the different ones endured and I am amazed at the resilience of some, the just getting through the day by others and then the forgiveness that was shown. I could see that healing came through each peeled back layer, as the nightmare of their ordeals were written and shared. The Lemonade Ladies sound like a group that are well on their way to letting go of their pain and ready to show others the process of peeling back the layers!
This was far more then just a book of poetry. I learned the stories of some strong and amazing women then in their own poetry felt the depth of their souls. It must have taken a great deal of courage for each of them to open their hearts so freely.
and they all have my gratitude for doing so. If you have ever felt alone with no way out this book will prove that you are not alone, not the only one, Others have been there and turned their lives into miracles. In sharing their sadness they have some how also managed to share their strength and hope for a better tomorrow. The last of the book shares the poetry of men who have also been there and proves we are truly more alike then different with hearts that can brake and mend
The Lemonade Ladies are pouring their hearts out...some of their poetry blows me away.

This is a very poignant book dealing with real life issues that any woman can relate to their own lives. It is labeled primarily as poetry, which it is, but some of the women's personal stories are also told in addition to the poems. As the title implies, it is "peeling back the layers" as each woman deals with their journey to find their own happiness, health and self-worth. I am normally not the type of person who reads poetry but each story and poem sheds light on their struggles either from their youth or from more recent experiences. By reading this book, if you've ever had any life struggles no matter how big or small, it will help you realize that you are not alone and that others have been through some, or all, of the same things. The book also explains how a support group for women over 40 who call themselves "Lemonade Ladies" came into being., My compliments to the author and all of those women brave enough to write about their own personal heartaches through poetry and telling their story in order to help others trying to heal.
